Summary
Le Monde reported that two Louvre heist suspects told investigating judges the alleged mastermind was unhappy with the €88 million haul and believed they could have stolen more.
Eight pieces of Napoleonic jewellery were taken from the Apollo Gallery last October after the pair allegedly entered via a first-floor balcony and smashed display cases under a three-minute deadline.
Abdoulaye N said a gem-encrusted crown worn by Empress Eugénie fell from his bag during the escape, while both men said they handed the remaining loot to an unnamed client.
The suspects said they were recruited only days before the burglary, shown a video of the gallery and promised €15,000 to €25,000, but refused to identify accomplices, citing threats and fear for their families.
Investigators have not confirmed that a mastermind directed the theft, which made global headlines and contributed to the Louvre director's resignation.
