Kelley Paul Launches Ages 4-8 History Book as US Marks 250th Anniversary

“Good Night, Young American” is Kelley Paul’s new children’s book for ages 4-8, using a boy’s July 4 bedtime adventure to introduce the Declaration of Independence and Revolutionary-era figures.
Paul said the project grew from her daughter-in-law’s search for more patriotic books for babies and from the approaching 250th anniversary of the United States.
Marika Monesi illustrated scenes including the Mayflower, Paul Revere’s ride and Washington crossing the Delaware, with Rand Paul also reviewing drafts and suggesting historical details.
Paul said she wrote the book partly to counter what she sees as schools’ diminished celebration of the founders, aiming instead to present their ideas on liberty and rights in child-friendly language.
Her broader goal is to give parents a starting point to discuss the nation’s founding and help young children see themselves as part of America’s story.
