Summary
Buffalo City Metro said essential services will continue despite National Treasury temporarily withholding its equitable share transfers.
National Treasury flagged the Eastern Cape municipality for persistent, serious non-compliance with the Municipal Finance Management Act, part of a wider push to enforce fiscal discipline.
Spokesperson Luzuko Buku said the metro is cooperating with Treasury over historical unauthorised, irregular, fruitless and wasteful expenditure and expects no disruption to residents, employees or other stakeholders.
The municipality said road construction, water and sanitation, and refuse removal will continue as planned, after Treasury moved this month against Johannesburg and dozens of other municipalities.
