Mike Lawler said his blowup with Jamie Raskin was justified after a House Judiciary hearing where murder victim’s mother Jessica Gorman urged Congress to tighten sanctuary policies.
Lawler said Democrats objected to his opening remarks about Sheridan Gorman and Laken Riley because they did not want to confront how sanctuary policies and other local criminal-justice rules contributed to those deaths.
The exchange escalated when Raskin shouted that Lawler did not belong on the committee and asked whether he felt outrage over Renee Good and Alex Pretti, two anti-ICE protesters killed by federal agents in Minnesota.
Lawler said he condemned those deaths too, but argued sanctuary rules also hindered local cooperation on crowd and traffic control, underscoring the broader partisan fight over whether local police should aid federal immigration enforcement.
