Summary
Mercedes positioned the 2028 VLE as a purpose-built electric luxury shuttle for car services, with U.S. sales targeted for the second half of 2027 and pricing starting at $75,000.
Two powertrains lead the lineup: a 272-hp front-drive VLE300 and a 413-hp all-wheel-drive VLE400, both using an 800-volt system and a 115-kWh battery that can add a claimed 220 miles in 15 minutes.
Seven degrees of rear-wheel steering gives the long-wheelbase U.S. model a 37.5-foot turning circle, while 10 cameras, five radar sensors and 12 ultrasonic sensors support parking and a 490-foot reverse-memory function.
Inside, Mercedes offers six- to eight-seat layouts, dual sliding doors and a 31.3-inch ceiling-mounted rear screen as it pitches the VLE as a 'Grand Limousine' rather than a conventional van.
Mercedes expects commercial operators to account for 80% of European demand, while U.S. trims and the split between chauffeur fleets and private buyers will be decided closer to launch.
