A body matching Elena Moore’s clothing description was found Wednesday in a wooded Lexington area after police received a community tip tied to her reported movements on June 11.
Police said Moore, 39, was last seen late June 11 at a Lexington Planet Fitness, and newly released images showed her later walking through a Publix parking lot toward Old Cherokee Road.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division was asked to lead the death investigation after Lexington officers and emergency crews searched near North Lake Drive, Old Cherokee Road and areas by Lakeside Middle School.
Before the discovery, investigators said there was no indication of foul play and that Moore’s husband, Brannon Slice, who reported her missing June 12, was cooperating and was not considered a person of interest.
Moore, a personal trainer at Wolf’s Fitness Center, had drawn growing concern from friends and investigators as drones were deployed, a $1,500 reward was offered and her unusual month-long social media silence came into focus.
