Summary
Kathryn Woessner, 68, was rescued on June 6 after two ATV riders found her nearly fully submerged in a 2-foot mud puddle in northern Minnesota, where she said she had been trapped for several days.
Her van had become stuck in a flooded wooded area near Backus and Hackensack, and she slipped into the mud while trying to get around it, later describing the puddle as "like quicksand."
Adam Sandbeck and Mike Gravalin said they initially thought she was dead until she whispered "Help me"; they pulled her out in less than 30 minutes and called 911.
Woessner had last been seen on June 3, and the Douglas County sheriff's office had issued an endangered missing person alert because she had no belongings with her and had medical conditions.
Paramedics took her to a nearby hospital after the rescue, and local officials said she was expected to make a full recovery.
