Playbill Unveils 2026 Tony Awards Digital Program as June 7 Ceremony Nears at Radio City

Q: Will a dark vampire musical or a classic Broadway parody ultimately conquer this year's Tony Awards?

The best bet is *Schmigadoon!* for the top prize, though *The Lost Boys* could still have the bigger haul overall. Both shows enter the 79th Tony Awards as co-leaders with 12 nominations, making their showdown the central race of the night. *The Lost Boys*, the dark vampire musical adapted from the 1987 film, has been praised for its scale, flying effects, rock score and technical ambition. *Schmigadoon!*, the Broadway parody based on the Apple TV+ series, has drawn strong notices for its witty Golden Age pastiche, buoyant tone and clever score by Cinco Paul. The clearest expert prediction in the material points to *Schmigadoon!* winning Best Musical. One theater critic forecast says that in a tight and tonally split race, Tony voters often favor the lighter, more comedic show, and also tips *Schmigadoon!* for Best Original Score. At the same time, several other prediction roundups suggest *The Lost Boys* may perform more strongly across the night, especially in technical categories such as scenic, lighting and sound design, with Shoshana Bean and Ali Louis Bourzgui also seen as serious acting contenders. June 7’s 79th Tony Awards will be accompanied by an official digital Playbill, giving at-home viewers the same program distributed at Radio City Music Hall.
Playbill said fans can browse the edition on phones, tablets or computers and pre-order a hard-copy keepsake, after last year’s print run sold out before the ceremony.
8 p.m. ET marks the start of the main CBS broadcast, hosted by Pink and streamed live on Paramount+ for premium subscribers; Pluto TV carries the 6:35 p.m. ET pre-show Act One.
The Lost Boys and Schmigadoon! lead this season with 12 nominations each, followed by Ragtime with 11, as winners are set to be announced on Broadway’s biggest night.
